Kingston University has been making the news recently, thanks to a recent publication by its researchers which showed that a bar of dark chocolate per day results in significant improvements in athletic performance - at least for endurance athletes.

It has been hypothesised that the vasodilation effects of a type of flavanol in dark chocolate is responsible, and that this effect is not immediate, but depends upon regular (perhaps daily) consumption. The exact quantities and timing, as well as optimal type of chocolate, will be the subject of leading experimenter Rishikesh Patel's future research.
